Clononeen Farm

OUR BROODMARES

Here at Clononeen Farm, we have our own band of proven Broodmares. Many of these great producers belonged to the breeding herd of our late Father so choosing mares to join these impressive ladies is not something which we take lightly. Each of our resident Broodmares, offers our breeding program something unique and when bred to the stallion of our choice, well the progeny is distinctive and has been given a lot of thought.

A nutritional specialist from Kentucky Equine Research visits our farm on a regular basis to inspect the condition of our mares and to analyze the pasture soil content. Our winter haylege is also part of a nutritional analysis so we know that the horses are getting the very best of everything. We have regular hoof care and worming programs to keep our horses in top condition, this professionalism, dedication and understanding gives reassurance to our clients that the Clononeen horses always receive the very best of care and attention.

CLONONEEN GODIVA
Clononeen Godiva, one of our Appleby purchases and absolutely bred in the purple, by "Billy Boy" - we are thrilled to add this superb mare to our broodmare herd especially since she was heavy in foal to our own Tumbleweed and has since produced a phenomenal bay and white filly aptly named "Clononeen Lucious". Godiva is running with Tumbleweed again for 2008 and we expect more great things from this exceptional traditional mare.

CLONONEEN FAYE
Clononeen Faye is an eight year old mare who is also by "Billy Boy" who is the same sire as Godiva and also Violet on our sales page. Faye is a good sized mare at close to 15hh with fabulous characteristics. Brian bought her at Appleby and she has been confirmed in foal to a top stallion and due to foal around March / April 2008.

CLONONEEN LEE
Clononeen Lee was bred by the famous Jim Lee and has been one of our most consistent and finest producers. All of her foals have great depth and are born looking like little cobs maturing into really exceptional stock. We have bred two fabulous fillies, one by Jim's own stallion and Lee's 2006 filly by Romeo. She foaled very late so we have left her open for 2006 and she is now out with Tumbleweed.

CLONONEEN BELLEFIRE
Clononeen Bellefire, by the Checkity stallion from Wexford, bred by "Piebald Luke" and sold to George Harrison. Bellefire was another of our Appleby mares and we are so happy to have her as one of Tumbleweed's 2007 mares. Bellefire was perhaps our most difficult purchases, so many breeders especially those from Wexford were literally begging to buy her for their own breeding programs. Bellefire is typical of what the Wexford Connors family strive for, lots of white with sabino or what they refer to as "checkity" markings after her sire.

CLONONEEN AINE
Pronounced Awn-nia – this proven mare stands an impressive 15.1hh and has given us some really fantastic foals including a pearl coloured filly by Clononeen Romeo. Her hair is currently being tested as we believe it is possible that she passed it on to her 2006 filly “Desert Jewel Mystery” Aine was one of our late father’s most prized mares, I remember him describing her attributes to me, lovely clean bone yet so heavy with lovely fine silky feather. Aine is confirmed in foal to Desert Jewel Lenny aka Lenny’s Horse for 2007.

CLONONEEN POLLY
Another of our late Father’s breeding herd, Polly is such a kind soul. She never gives any trouble and is always the first to greet us in the field. She is another old fashioned type mare with more height than what is being bred for today. She consistently puts compact and strong foals on the ground every year and has so far had mostly fillies! Polly is in foal to The Hustler for 2007.

CLONONEEN RIANNA
This mare was bought especially for Romeo and had a gorgeous black filly foal at foot. She bred one of our best 2006 colts by Romeo and is now in foal to The Hustler. We believe that she is a Lob daughter and is one of our mares who puts a bit of height on her foals, she herself stands close to 15hh.

CLONONEEN EIREANN
One of the first mares we bought together and perhaps our most prized producer. Eireann stands close to 15.2hh and is a Paddy Horse daughter. Brian bought her in 2004 and since then, her breeder has been asking to buy her back but thankfully she has a home here forever. Eireann is usually our first mare to foal and sure enough 2007 was no exception and her filly Slaney was the first foal born on our new property.

CLONONEEN CHROICORAGH
Meaning “heartfelt” in Gaelic, Chroicoragh is approx. 14.3hh and an incredible broodmare. Her foals are exceptionally “typey” with lots of feather and are really short coupled. Chroi is confirmed in foal to The Hustler for late 2007.

CLONONEEN DERVAL
The only Gypsy Cob who has more black than The Hustler! Derval is approx. 14.2hh and one of the best movers we have owned, not only does she have a natural high step but she has a fabulous length of stride and is gorgeous to ride. Derval had a fabulous Romeo filly in 2006 and is confirmed in foal to Hustler for late 2007. We are keeping last year’s filly as she is so well built and compact – like her Mummy and Daddy!

CLONONEEN LOUGHLIN
Clononeen Loughlin is a phenomenal proven mare, she is close to 15hh and “has a leg in every corner” – such substance and presence in a mare is hard to find. We are so looking forward to her 2007 Hustler foal, her progeny to date are very evenly marked and have all had her movement which is so fluid, ideal for breeding either driving or riding Gypsies.
